17. My name on my tax bill where it says “OWNER NAME AS OF 01/01/20XX” is incorrect. How do I change it?

That is the name listed on your deed as of 01/01/20XX.  Per the Trumbull County Recorder’s Office, once a document is recorded, it cannot be changed. The only way this can be done is by recording a new deed showing the change. The Recorder’s office recommends that you contact an attorney if you need to make a change or correct a mistake on your deed.  If you have any other questions regarding this, please contact the Office of Trumbull County Recorder Tod Latell at 330-675-2401.

18. The name on my tax bill where it says “OWNER NAME AS OF 01/01/20XX” is the previous owner.  Why?

According to Ohio law, the bill must reflect the deeded owner name as of the beginning of the tax year.

19. I just moved into this house recently. The previous owner is responsible for the bill.  Why did you send it to me?

The owner of record at the time the bill is due is responsible for the taxes owed on the property.  If there was a purchase agreement between the buyer and seller, please review it to determine each party’s responsibilities on this and all other matters involved in the transfer of the property.  If you are unsure how to read the agreement, please seek assistance from the mortgage or title company that handled the transaction. The Treasurer’s Office does not have this information.

20. Why did my taxes increase?

Property taxes may change due to three main reasons:

21. I don’t agree with the value that has been placed on my property.  What can I do?

Complaints must be filed with the County Auditor’s Office.  Visit their website for more information.  Their phone number is 330-675-2420.

22. I have a question about the homestead exemption, owner occupancy credit, or non-business credit. Whom do I contact?

The County Auditor’s Office is responsible for the homestead exemption, owner occupancy credit, and non-business credit.  Their phone number is 330-675-2420 or you may visit their website
